Sailfin is committed to safeguarding and to working in ways that help keep children, young people and adults at risk safe from harm.

What we mean by safeguarding

Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect, and taking action to prevent harm and respond appropriately if a concern is raised.

Our commitment

We will:

  • Take safeguarding seriously in all our work.
  • Promote a culture where concerns can be raised and responded to promptly.
  • Work in a way that is respectful, inclusive and trauma‑informed.
  • Follow safer working practices when our work involves contact with children or adults at risk.
  • Comply with relevant safeguarding and data protection requirements.

What this statement covers (and boundaries)

Sailfin is a consultancy. We do not provide regulated care services, and we are not an emergency response service.

However, our work sometimes involves engagement with organisations that work with children or adults at risk, and may occasionally involve contact with those groups (for example, through consultation, research, co‑design, interviews, or site visits). When that applies, we will agree appropriate safeguarding arrangements with the client in advance.

How we manage safeguarding in practice

Depending on the nature of an assignment, we may:

  • Clarify roles and responsibilities for safeguarding at the start of the project (including who the client’s designated safeguarding lead is).
  • Confirm appropriate consent and supervision arrangements for any direct engagement with service users.
  • Use safer working practices (for example, meeting in professional settings, avoiding one‑to‑one situations where possible, and keeping clear professional boundaries).
  • Ensure anyone working on the project understands how to recognise a safeguarding concern and what to do next.
  • Keep accurate, minimal notes of any concern and share them only with the appropriate safeguarding lead or authority.

Reporting a safeguarding concern

If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

If a safeguarding concern arises in connection with Sailfin’s work:

  1. If the concern relates to a specific client project, we will normally report it immediately to the client’s designated safeguarding lead and follow the client’s safeguarding procedures.
  2. If it is not appropriate to report via the client, we will consider the most appropriate route to escalate the concern (for example, the local authority safeguarding team, the police, or another relevant body).

You can also raise a safeguarding concern with us by emailing: adam@sailfin.co.uk.

Please do not include unnecessary personal details by email. We will respond promptly and handle information sensitively.

Review

We review this statement periodically and update it when needed.
